Hoi An Walking Tour and Cooking Class

After meeting your guide in central Hoi An, hit the enchanting streets of the Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Full of charm and remaining largely unscathed despite successive wars, Hoi An’s Ancient Town offers plenty of architectural highlights and streets that are a delight to explore, including several that are pedestrian-only.

Walk at a leisurely pace with your knowledgeable guide. Stop for photo ops of the Japanese Covered Bridge, which dates to the 1590s. The town’s Japanese community built the bridge to link them with the Chinese quarters across the stream. Then take note as your guide points out the many Chinese assembly halls, from the Hainan Chinese Congregation, which serves as a memorial to 107 merchants from Hainan Island who were mistaken for pirates and killed during the reign of Emperor Tu Duc, to the Cantonese Chinese Congregation, which features an impressive main altar.

After an informative walking tour, head to a family-run restaurant for your cooking class. Meet your chef-instructor who explains the range of delicious Vietnamese dishes that you will cover, then hit the local market together. Learn about key ingredients and stock up on fresh produce needed for your feast before returning to the restaurant, ready to cook.

Your chef-instructor shows you how to make favorite dishes such as spring rolls, papaya salad and grilled tuna (see sample menu under Itinerary). At the end, sit down to feast on the delicious dishes you’ve created — a perfect ending to your half-day experience of Hoi An. Be sure to take a complimentary recipe booklet so that you can wow your family and friends back home.
